College Graduates – Seven Helpful Tips on Getting a Job

by Goos

College Graduate Tips

If you’re looking for work right now, as we assume you are, you’re undoubtedly experiencing a range of emotions. When you’re in the job market, you’re likely to feel excited, nervous, or overwhelmed. The more you know about effective techniques, the more likely you are to land the job you’ve always wanted.

– If you’re having trouble finding work, try switching up your search method. You should not give up just though many places are not recruiting. Visit somewhere you’ve never seen before, and make sure you’ll be able to travel there quickly if you obtain the job. If you don’t have a car, don’t take a job that’s 50 miles away.

– If you’re interested in working for a specific company, don’t be afraid to contact them personally to see what they have available. There may be some positions available that they haven’t had the chance to publicize. Getting in touch with them right away can offer you a leg up.

– Become a member of professional organizations in your field. This is a great method to get your name out there and expand your company network. Your participation in a professional group provides you with additional qualifications on your resume that can help a hiring manager decide whether or not to hire you. I used to do it by going to nearby towns and signing up to become a member of their local business club. Almost every town has one… find one and sign up. There are a lot of other people there who could be willing to open their doors to a member of their own group.

– Participate in at least one practice interview with someone you respect if you have a challenging interview coming up. This can be done with an instructor or a family member to help you prepare for the stress of the actual interview. This will help you relax on your big day.

– If you’re seeking for work, make sure you have a LinkedIn account and fill up your profile completely. This is vital even if you are not “on” social media. Before calling someone in for an interview, many employers utilize LinkedIn as a screening tool. You will never be able to take that initial step through the door if you do not have a profile.

– Provide flexible hours if your task may be done at any time of day or night. This will broaden the pool of individuals you may choose from, and when there are more options, it’s better to hire better people. This will also provide your employee more freedom to choose his own schedule and live his life as he sees fit.

– Make sure your friends and acquaintances know you’re looking for work. You may be aware of job openings in your field, or they may propose contacts you hadn’t considered. Many people have found work in this manner, and you could be one of them!

It might be difficult to find a work that is both relevant and gratifying. However, if you can implement some of these suggestions into your job search, you will be in a lot better position to meet your career objectives! You’re on your way to having the resources you’ll need to complete this task!
